Three-Point Summary

‘What’s the most relevant information on the forums this week for MKR and Dai holders?’

  • Amount of MKR delegated continues to increase, nearing the 75,000 mark!
  • @monet-supply begins to publish regular updates on the gas market environment and dust parameter.
  • Arbitrum Custom DAI Bridge is coming soon (within a few weeks)!

ICYMI - Announcements

@prose11, now beginning to feel like a broken record , announced that there would not be a new executive up on Friday, August 27th. He explains that the weekly executives have been following an unofficial bi-weekly schedule as long as one of the executives don’t contain anything bulky or urgent.

@Derek from PECU (Protocol Engineering Core Unit) published a very elegant consensus by the entire PECU Team. He explains how governance-related decisions now bind the PECU. As the Core Unit continues to scale with its members growing and beginning to wear different hats, it’s essential to abide by the PECU core mandate. In response, the team has been strategizing the future of the PECU and present to the community some thoughts about their evolution.

@bartek from the PECU published a brief description of their work alongside Arbitrum, which is almost complete and requires an internal audit of the Custom DAI Gateway before officially launching on Arbitrum mainnet. The PECU is expecting to launch the Custom DAI Bridge within the coming weeks.

@josolnik from RCU (Risk Core Unit) posted a comprehensive analysis of external elements of vault activity which can aid in preventing insolvency. The analysis explores high-level vault behavior, successful vaults protecting borrowed funds, and vault liquidation activity.

@tbone published a summary of gas spent on voting and polling since the deployment of DSChief. His post includes a well-formatted and scrollable table :sunglasses:.

@Bri174 announces the unfortunate but necessary discontinuation of the Maker RocketChat channel after October 31, 2021. The MakerDAO Community is tasked with exploring and deciding on a new communications platform. This post also continues as a discussion.

@prankstr25 from New Silver published their monthly update for August, which includes a brief summary and their loan metrics.

@monet-supply from the RCU published an update on the gas market environment and dust parameter, which he plans to begin posting on a more regular basis.

@Davidutro from the GCCU (Governance Communications Core Unit) created a thread containing resources to help find MakerDAO job opportunities. If anybody has additional information on unique hiring practices or job listings, please comment on the thread or message @david.u on RocketChat.

Active Discussions

‘What’s going on? You think what?! You’re 100% wrong, and here’s why…’

Mindmapping MakerDAO Discussions - @Derek from PECU created a visual representation of topics being discussed on the forum and in RocketChat with the purpose to capture everything being discussed. Derek asks the community what may be missing and whether this would help form new discussions on short and long-term priorities for Maker.

Delegate Compensation [informal poll] - The first delegations have been disbursed, which leads to @twblack88 pondering on a few issues and now asking the community for their thoughts on hourly voting commitment for delegates and delegate compensation.

[INFORMAL POLL] Should Real World Asset Originators (AO) Stake MKR? - @ElProgreso asks the community whether RWAOs should have “skin-in-the-game” by Staking MKR and if they default on a loan the Stake MKR is sent to the flapper. This suggestion stems from multiple recent discussions on the forum, along with ideas brought by up-and-coming RWA lender Goldfinch.

[Informal Poll] Potential Issue with Protocol Paid Delegates - In response to @twblack88 informal poll on Delegate Compensation, @Spidomo presents his concern with the current voting power by Delegates. He asks the community whether paying Recognized Delegates to govern the protocol put MakerDAO at an increased risk of being deemed a security by United States authorities?

Informal Poll - MakerDAO Project Partnership Suitability Metrics? - @MakerMan asks the community whether MakerDAO should use additional suitability metrics when considering proposal applications or business opportunities to help maintain healthy sustainability.

Ongoing Discussions:

‘Who said discussions should end after a week!?’

[Discussion] Proposed Reform of Maker’s RWA Program: Decentralize and De-Risk the Process - As the Maker Protocol attempts to scale exposure to Real-World Assets, @PaperImperium discusses that Maker is required to institute better internal controls as we become large enough to afford them. He proposes that the Real World Finance Core Unit should be split into two; one focusing as a “business” RWF CU, and the other a “risk” RWF CU. Much deeper discussion can be found in post.

Seeking Consensus

‘Yo, do you even signal?’

[Signal Request] Adjust the Surplus Buffer (September 2021) - @ultraschuppi is signaling to adjust the Surplus Buffer to prevent it from filling up in the case Liquidations Penalties collected during a significant market drop.

[Signal Request] Nexo Institutional Vault - Following many discussions around Institutional and Long-Term Vaults and their financial implication, @Nadia is signaling by asking the community by asking whether we should launch the Nexo Institutional Vault.

[Signal Request] Offboard KNC Legacy Token - Following community support and discussion, @monet-supply signals to offboard the KNC-A vault type with the parameter changes outlined in the post.

Ongoing Initiatives

‘Oh my god, this is taking ages; why can’t things be simple?’
