Wanted: Governance Help

Description

We are looking for someone to assist with the Governance Facilitator role on a regular basis. As the community has grown over the past few months, it has become clear that we could benefit from having someone to assist with the medium to long-term aspects of the Facilitator Mandate.

Duties would include writing governance documentation, creating MIPs and pursuing initiatives that improve the efficiency and integrity of the MakerDAO Governance process. The work can be as self-directed as desired.

The work will require close communication with the current Governance Facilitators.

Looking longer term, we feel that this role would serve as a good stepping stone into the role of Governance Facilitator.

Criteria

Applicants should:

  • Have a basic understanding of the role of the Governance Facilitators.
  • Have a basic understanding of the MIPs Process.
  • Care passionately about the Maker Governance process.
  • Appreciate good work for its own sake.
  • Be able to dedicate at least 8 hours a week to the role.
  • Be able to explain why they are the right person for the role.
  • Be able to demonstrate general competence.
  • Be comfortable taking initiative and self-directing.
  • Be comfortable having and expressing opinions.
  • Be comfortable changing opinions in the face of evidence.

Interested?

If you feel that you are interested and capable of the role, please reach out to @LongForWisdom on the MakerDAO Rocketchat.

This is an on-going informal role, not a permanent employment with the Maker Foundation. You will be paid in Dai provided through the Maker Foundation Grants Program.

Hey @longsforwisdom I’m pretty into community governance/ stakeholder facilitation for the MetaCartel Community: RaidGuild, MetaGame, Ect

Haven’t dipped into the MIP process but would be happy to get up to speed before having a conversation to explore the opportunity more. Do you have some links and suggested next steps ?

+1. Governance is something I’ve long been interested in. I don’t have Yalor’s credentials, but would be interested in some resources to dive in and maybe see if I’m a fit.

Thanks for the interest @YalorMewn and @wschwab

The mips repo can be found here if you’d like to do further reading on MIPs: https://github.com/makerdao/mips/tree/Accepted

MIP0-MIP4, MIP16 are the heavily governance-focused MIPs we’ve had so far.

There is also a governance section on the community portal which can be found here: https://community-development.makerdao.com/governance

Specifically these pages may be worth reading over:
https://community-development.makerdao.com/governance/common-topics
https://community-development.makerdao.com/governance/governance
https://community-development.makerdao.com/governance/core-principles

I’d also suggest you attend a governance and risk meeting (agenda for the next one) to get an idea of the sort of thing that gets discussed.

In general, reading over the recent activity in this forum and understanding the issues that governance is currently facing would also be valuable (though time consuming.)

Feel free to get in touch with me on rocketchat at any point.

Hey @wschwab credentials don’t mean a thang, let’s explore collaborative opportunities on it and maybe we can tackle different parts that fall into our area of expertise. Are you on Telegram I’m @yalormewn if you wanna chat before Thursday :spiral_calendar::call_me_hand:t3:

Hey @LongForWisdom @YalorMewn I want to contribute. I have experience in legacy corporate governance. I am eager to see decentralized changes and wrote a post about governance this past week. How can I help?
